I was looking to purchase a multi tool and Halfords had one which fitted my needs. The online ordering was quick and as a guest, I benefited from a Christmas price reduction code. After paying I was instructed to collect after one hour. By the time I had arrived at Braehead, my purchase was ready for collection. Upon arrival I gave my name and collected the item. It couldn't have been more straightforward and trouble free.

Popped into Halfords at Braehead today, seeking spray paint for my car.
I approached a “so called sales assistant” to ask her for some guidance on choosing the correct colour of paint for the job, however she had no intention whatsoever in supplying any help and referred me to the colour chart on the stand, with a very dismissive attitude !

Never in all my years in retail business, have I experienced such a careless attitude towards customers from inexperience staff, who have obviously found their forté of “Stacking shelves” with products that, dare I say “Paying Customers” actually require to purchase, which incidentally helps keep her in employment.
I now realise why the general public shop online …. I’ll certainly be joining that group with similar products Halfords stock and no doubt the online products will be far less expensive !

It’s high time Halfords informed their staff that “All” businesses need sales to survive and staff straining should be implemented for welcoming “paying customers”,as without these “paying Customers” they won’t have Jobs or indeed a business !

On October 29, 2024 @ 12, I took my bike in for a £60 service. Right from the start, the ‘technician’ (using the term loosely here) insisted that multiple parts needed replacement: the chain, cables, tyres, calipers—you name it, he said it needed replacing. I asked if anything could simply be fixed (for example the caliper) and I was told “probably, but, I don’t have the time”. Ultimately, I was quoted between £230 and £290 to restore the condition of a bike that had been stored in a dry garage for a year. This didn’t sit well with me.

For instance, why quote for cables when they’re supposed to be included in the service package? Why assume the tires are burst when they’re likely just deflated from storage? Why quote for a new chain without even checking its wear? And why say the brakes were “completely seized” when they were clearly moving and stopping the tyre? He couldn’t provide clear answers for any of this.

In my view, the real issue was that 1) he was a lone “technician” who seemed disinterested, and 2) it was close to lunchtime.

I asked if we could proceed with just the £60 service, but he refused, saying, “We either do it all or don’t do it at all—it’s a safety thing.” What kind of answer is that? When I decided to cancel, he simply replied, “Cool,” a final example of their remarkable customer service (or lack thereof). To top it off, he struggled to process the refund and couldn’t issue a paper receipt, ultimately leaving me to take a bike from their store without any clear indication of a refund.

We took the bike to Cycle Lane instead, where they confirmed all it needed was a basic £60 service. The bike was ready and fitted with all of my optional extras that I’d decided to purchase (speedo, seat cover, lights, phone holder etc). The chain was in “near-new” condition, the pads were “absolutely fine,” and the calipers only needed a standard service, not replacement. The bike rides great, and I saved about £230 by going elsewhere. Their technician could simply not believe the price I was quoted and was of the opinion that the guy just couldn’t be bothered.

In my experience, I’d recommend avoiding Halfords for bike repairs or servicing—you’ll likely be overcharged and the workmanship will probably be as shoddy as their customer service.

Brilliant service from halfords braehead. We bought a new car seat for our granddaughter aged 3/4 and the young girl (never got her name but she wore a ribbon in her hair) fitted it in the car and demonstrated the fixings for us. She was really nice and confident and we would certainly go back there for future purchases.

Absolutely awful service. Never again! Bought and got fitted new battery but didn't have knowledge or equipment to reset battery! Chris, manager, tried to make out that issue was pre-existing and then when I challenged him on that, he then said that his staff had fulfilled the fitting. Majority, if not all, need to have battery reset when a new battery is fitted! One, they don't know how to do their job and don't have the correct equipment to do it and second, they patronise you with stupid excuses, thinking you don't know any better.

Amazing experience. Didn't catch his name, but the technician with a beard and a ring on the left ear was very very helpful, gone above and beyond to help me put my plates on. He explained clearly the steps, what he's going to do etc, was very informative. He is very knowledgeable, ensuring the plates go on properly. Please pass my compliments to that person, and I hope he gets recognised for going above and beyond. This Halfords is not actually my local one, but i will visit this specific Halfords from now on if I need anything. Thank you

Richard was brilliant today. He gave me some good advice on engine oil I was buying for my car, and he topped this up for me in a matter of seconds. First class service, will definitely be back.
